British Gas - 7th December

British Gas has today launched WebSaver 5 as a direct but cheaper replacement to WebSaver 4 which is being withdrawn from the market immediately.

WebSaver 5 is an online energy account where prices are guaranteed to be 6% lower than the British Gas standard tariff until 28th February 2011, so regardless of whether prices go up or down the tariff will always be 6% lower than the standard prices.

Unlike WebSaver4 which has been available in a number of payment methods WebSaver5 is only available to monthly direct customers. WebSaver5 gains the number one position is 6 of the UK distribution areas, East Midlands Electricity, Manweb, Scottish Hydro-Electric, Scottish Power, SWALEC and SWEB. This means that the number one position is held by British Gas, OVO Energy and first:utility.

EDF 2 November

EDF Energy has today removed the following tariffs from the market:

Online Energy Version 5

Online S@ver Version 2

at the same time they have launched Online S@ver Version 3 and for the first time they have launched a gas only version.

The new tariff is very competitive and from a gas perspective places EDF at the number one spot in all 14 areas across the UK, taking them into the same position as British Gas and OVO Energy - who together hold the number one spots for electricity and dual fuel for most areas.

Online S@ver Version 3 has been designed to be very competitive rates at time of sign-up, and a minimum 2% discount off EDF Energy Standard prices guaranteed until the end of December 2010.

Customers joining the tariff who do subsequently leave before the end of the December 2010 will be subject to early termination fees of £25 per fuel.

EON 30 October

E,ON Energy has today launched FixOnline v4.

Key features and benefits of FixOnlibe v4 are:

* Limited availability

* Fixed term contract until 1st February 2011 discounts will be given until this date

* Available to dual fuel and single electricity customers (single electricity product is not available with other E.ON gas products)

* Customer must manage their account online to receive their full discount

* Customer must pay by monthly Direct Debit

* No Tesco Clubcard Points

* Exit fees applicable if customer leaves before the end date of 1st February 2011 - £30 duel fuel, £10 single electricity

* IGT charges applicable

* No Mains Gas applicable for customers without gas in their homes

With its 15 month fixed price and extremely competitive price this tariff immediately gains the position of being the cheapest dual fuel fixed price tariff on the market today for the standard customer**

npower 19 October

npower has today launched two new tariff, Go Fix and Go Fix XL.

Both tariffs are fixed price tariffs where customers will enjoy a fixed price for their energy until 31st December 2010. Neither tariff has an early termination fee.

Both are online tariffs where the customer must be happy to manage their energy accounts online and also pay by monthly direct debit.

Go Fix is available as a gas only, electricity only or dual fuel tariffs and is available to both new and existing customers.

Go Fix XL on the other hand is only available as a dual fuel tariff to new customers.





At the same time as this launch npower removed from sale its two flagship products 'Sign Online' and 'Web 16'. These two new products are designed to be replacements.



In terms of price this is by no means the most competitive tariff on the market but with a capped rate until 31st December 2010, coupled with no early termination charges it is certainly one to watch!"

EDF 12 October

EDF Energy has today launched Annual Fix Version 4 as a dual fuel or electricity only tariff.

Annual Fix Version 4 is a fixed rate tariff where prices are fixed until at least the end of September 2010.

Additionally, Annual Fix Version 4 tariff provides the opportunity to fix your prices again every year you remain on the tariff.

Payment is at this stage by monthly direct debit only.

Like many fixed rate tariffs an early termination of £25 for gas accounts and £25 for electricity accounts applies to customers changing tariff or supplier before the end of September 2010.

EON 8 October

E.ON Energy has today, 8th October 2009, launched two new domestic energy tariffs:

Fixed Price v4

Fixed Price v4 offers customers the ability to fix their gas and electricity prices until the 1st December 2010, with no long term tie in or penalty clause to pay should they leave the energy tariff before 1st December 2010.

The key features of Fixed Price v4 are:


• Available to Dual Fuel and Single Electricity customers - Customers can have single electricity Fixed Price 4 product but not with any other E.ON gas product, they must take the Dual fuel product.

• Customers can pay by Cash/Cheque and Monthly Direct Debit.

• Tesco ClubCard points applicable

• IGT charge on gas.

• No cancellation charge

• Not available to Prepayment and non standard meters e.g. Economy10, Restricted Hours Tariffs

• Customers can register for Customer Self Serve to manage their account online and receive paperless bills (no additional discount).

Track and Save v3

Track and Save v3 provides customers with a guarantee that their gas and electricity prices will be cheaper than British Gas standard bills for existing customers until 1 February 2011.

The key features of Track and Save v3 are:


• Available to Single Electricity, Single Gas and Dual Fuel customers (customers taking one of the single products cannot have a different product for their other fuel)

• Customers can pay via Monthly Direct Debit or Cash/Cheque

• No Cancellation Fee.

• Tesco Clubcard Points available

• No IGT charge

• Not available to Prepayment and non standard meters e.g. Economy10, Restricted Hours Tariffs

• Customers can manage their accounts on line and get paperless bills but will not receive an additional online discount.

EON - 29 September

E.ON yesterday launched WinterGas, a dual fuel or gas only tariff.

E.ON has stated that WinterGas guarantees cheapest gas bills this winter compared to other major suppliers’ Standard plans, at average usage** until 31st March 2010.

This is indeed correct if you compare standard gas prices however in comparison with the cheapest online accounts it does not compare.

WinterGas is available to monthly direct debit customers and quarterly cash/cheque customers albeit that these customers are now billed monthly.

Scottish Power - 25 September 2009

ScottishPower has today removed Online Energy Saver 6 from sale to new customers and replaced this with Online Energy Saver 7.

The product is guaranteed to remain a minimum of 3% cheaper than ScottishPower standard monthly Direct Debit prices for gas and electricity until December 2010. There will also be a cancellation charge if the customer switches their supply contract before 30th November 2010. It is only available as a Dual Fuel product.

The key features are:


* Guaranteed discount until at least December 2010

* Cash back on credit balances at annual reassessment

* Cancellation Charge (£30 Elec, £20 Gas) if you leave before December 2010

From a pricing viewpoint this tariff positions ScottishPower as the cheapest standard* supplier in the following areas:

Eastern Electricity (£935.32 per annum)

East Midlands Electricity (£944.90 per annum)

ScottishPower (£964.95 per annum)

Southern Electric (£960.74)
